When KUIER magazine hit the shelves in 2009, no one could have anticipated the runaway success that this fortnightly magazine would become. It’s two years down the line and KUIER is currently the fastest growing magazine in South Africa with latest audited circulation figures reporting a year-on-year growth of a whopping 108%.
The hallmark of a successful editorial team is one that identifies with the publication’s readers and no one understands this fact better than KUIER editor, Kay Karriem. According to Karriem the magazine’s success can be attributed to the fact that it truly understands its readers and market.
“We’re privileged that our readers trust KUIER to keep them informed and provide them with solutions to the issues that they face on a daily basis,” she says. “Besides, to kuier requires personal interaction and is something you don’t do with strangers, only with those you’re close to. It’s clear as day that people can’t wait to kuier,” adds Karriem. “You only have to look at how popular the KUIER events are. All in all we’re offering excellent value and quality content.”
KUIER offers advice on everything from parenting, finance, relationships and health to fashion, beauty, décor and food. The magazine shares inspiring stories from people in the community and aims to uplift and empower readers by focusing on positive stories and successful role models.
Its birthday issue cover star is the bubbly and spontaneous Quanita Adams of Colour TV fame which is broadcast every Friday night on SABC 2. Adams talks about her interesting and mixed cultural heritage and what it means to be a coloured women in South Africa today. KUIER joins Adams in celebrating her heritage, knowing who you are and using that as an inspiration to keep moving forward.
KUIER’s lead story takes a look back at the tragic bus accident that killed 14 learners and their bus driver on 24 August. KUIER has a heartfelt conversation with those families left behind to pick up the pieces while also addressing those burning questions about who should be held responsible.
With all eyes on the Springboks this month, KUIER talks to World Cup television match official, Shaun Veldsman. “People from the Boland are extremely proud to see their man on television and hear his voice on radio these days,” says Karriem. “He spoke to us about his days as referee on club level rugby in Worcester, and that unforgettable moment when he received confirmation that he will be joining the World Cup in his most important role to date.”
Included with the KUIER birthday issue is the KUIER H hair guide, with tips and step-by-step help on how to get long, loose and soft curls, how you can easily create your own up-do for that perfect look and for the short and funky, how to turn short and dull looking hair into an edgy style.
The fashion pages packed are packed to the brim with dress styles, accessories and shoes by Errol Arendz for those approaching that all important 21st birthday celebration. Readers can also win R5 000 worth of Four Cousins Sparkling Wine for the big celebration.
Another exciting competition is the Win a day with the KUIER team at Mangwanani African Day Spa at Zevenwacht, and a chance to win a whopping R30 000 cash prize for your most creative rice recipe.
“Our birthday issue will certainly leave readers with much to think about,” says Karriem, “But then again, we believe that each and every issue does just that,” she concluded.
