The celebrated producer embarked on an 18-month musical journey of discovery, on which he fine-tuned and played with various sounds until he landed on the product he was finally happy to release to market.

Speaking about this 13-track album Thasman says, “Initially the album was due for release last year, but I was not happy with the sound. It was just too monotonous and the beat was dull. I found myself being a trend follower instead of a trendsetter.”

Music, Soul and Dance carries a distinct sound that features Afro-Soul elements. The instrumentation boasts a very African inspired sound, while the vocals give the soulful element of the album.

Overall, the album is all up-tempo and has the popular beat associated with house music.

“It’s the kind of beat that picks up from lounge music and gradually takes you through to club floor-fillers. The sound evolves from one mood to the next. You can listen to the whole thing from beginning to the end,” says Thasman.

With tracks in IsiZulu, English, IsiXhosa, Shangaan and SeTswana, the album features an array of about 8 to10 artists, including the likes of Malik, Fifi, Mpande, OBK and Jahseed.

Thasman has been in the music business since 1993. He has produced award-winning albums for over 15 artists and has also produced songs featured in the soundtrack for the Oscar-winning movie Tsotsi and TV series Gaz’lam.

Some of Thasman’s work can also be heard on Unathi’s debut album, My First Time; Zola’s first two albums, Tuks’ three albums and all of Hip Hop Pantsula (HHP)’s 5 albums, including his latest offering MotswAfrika.
