The acclaimed series on DStv’s Cartoon Network, (Turner Broadcasting’s London-based European development studio), scooped three key victories at the 2012 Kidscreen Awards, including ‘Best Animated Series (Kids)’ in the programming awards, ‘Best Animation Achievement’ in the creative talent awards and ‘Favourite Kids’ Program’ in the viewers’ choice awards.

The news comes hot on the heels of the series scooping ‘Best Animated Television Production – Children’s’ at 2012 Annies Awards, which took place on Saturday, 4 February at the UCLA Royce Hall in Los Angeles. The Amazing World of Gumball beat off stiff competition in one of the most hotly contested categories at the Annies, trumping Penguins of Madagascar, Kung Fu Panda and Fan Boy and Chum Chum.

Other award wins since the series launched just nine months ago in May 2011 include two awards at the 2011 British Academy Children’s Awards (Kids’ BAFTA), for ‘Best Animation’ and ‘Best Writer’ and a ‘Cristal Award’ for Best Television Production at the 2011 Annecy International Animation Film Festival.

The Amazing World of Gumball follows the misadventures of twelve-year-old Gumball and his unconventional family in the weird and wonderful town of Elmore. Featuring a stellar cast of characters, Gumball’s school friends include a tyrannosaurus rex, a cheerleading peanut, and a banana.

Michael Carrington, chief content officer, Turner Broadcasting says: “Every one of these award wins is a fantastic testament to the phenomenal achievements of the entire team who worked on this amazing series. For the début series from our European Studios to make such a huge impact globally both with audiences and in terms of critical acclaim, is truly a wonderful position to be in.”

The Amazing World of Gumball is produced by Cartoon Network Europe and its production partners, Dandelion Productions, Boulder Media, and Studio Soi.
