SABC1 viewers will be glad to learn that the new season of their favourite dance show, Jika Majika (season 10), is scheduled to start airing on the youth channel from Thursday, 15 March, replacing Turn it Out in the 19:00 timeslot.
The new season of Jika Majika returns with a number of exciting changes, including a revamped set and some added spice to the high-energy filled show. The show will retain the services of its two presenters from previous seasons, vivacious Thembi Seete and Mpendulo Buthelezi, a working combination that Mzansi viewers have grown to love.
“Our main aim with the new season is to make the show more representative and appealing to our viewers in the regions. However, we have also infused new exciting elements into the show to make it more trendy, entertaining and funky to our youthful audience,” says Vukile Madlala, the channel’s publicity manager.
The new Jika Majika will feature real dance battles between five participating regions: Gauteng, Mpumalanga, North West, KZN and Limpopo. The dancers, who are chosen after an extreme round of auditions prior to the show, come with their dance coaches to represent their regions. After the filming of five episodes from one region, the winners will form a group that will compete against the other groups from the different regions.
The show will now also incorporate a reality element, where dancers will be filmed backstage with their coaches. This will show just how tense it can be when dancers are competing for the main prize of an overseas trip. Another new element in the show is a segment titled ‘Skeem SeJika’ where well-known celebrities and ordinary viewers alike are able to give inspirational messages.
“We felt we needed to give viewers not just another dance show, but an experience. We want viewers to be able to identify with the emotional rollercoaster that the dancers will be going through,” says the producer of the show, Thabo Mphelo.
Each episode will be designed to excite and entertain the South African viewers, by introducing fresh new talent. The show promises to continue setting the trends within the local television dance space by being unique, exciting and entertaining.
