The prank was part of a national campaign that is seeing consumers and celebrities alike getting ‘mugged’ by Black Coffee and his band of tricksters, complete with dancers and decks, as they get a ‘Wide Awake Shake’ courtesy of the coffee brand. Members of the public have been invited to nominate their friends, family and colleagues to ‘Get Mugged’ by DJ Black Coffee and his crew, and celebrities have not escaped either.

“Katlego was the perfect target to ‘Get Mugged’,” said van der Westhuizen about the prank. “There have been a few occasions when production has had to give him a wakeup call in the morning before he had to be on set, so we decided that today we were going to give him a proper ‘Wide Awake Shake’ as they so aptly call it.”

“I didn’t have a clue what was going on,” said Maboe after ‘Getting Mugged’. “We were just sitting there quietly chatting and enjoying a cup of coffee when all this crazy music comes out of nowhere. My first thought was that the crew had made a mistake, but when I saw DJ Black Coffee I realised that they had me. It’s a clever campaign, brilliantly conceptualised and well executed.”

Van der Westhuizen said the early rising aspect of her job was worth it just to see the look on her co-presenter’s face when DJ Black Coffee and his crew came out. “They brought such great energy to the studio. It was hilarious.”

The campaign has been created to announce that Frisco have added new Frisco Granules to the Frisco family in an exciting and bold way that shatters the boundaries of the instant coffee category. Members of the public can nominate someone deserving to ‘Get Mugged’ on the Frisco Facebook page as well as the Twitter page. Consumers also stand the chance to win tickets to a house party with DJ Black Coffee on the decks. Check the Facebook page and listen out to Metro FM and 5FM for more details.
