On Monday, 9 July, etv will launch a brand new local soap opera, Rhythm City. The soap opera’s storyline is based around the contemporary music scene and the experiences of those who are brave enough to enter the cutthroat industry. Rhythm City will be produced by Curious Pictures, which has a reputation for innovative productions of independent films and large scale television dramas. Monde Twala, the show’s executive producer says Rhythm City aims to entertain while exploring the lives, needs, wants and motivations of young people as a whole. Bronwyn Keene-Young, channel director of etv, says, “The vibrant music industry as a backdrop for a soap opera will appeal to both the youth and adults”. The show will be broadcast in the prime-time weekday 18:30 to 19:00 slot.
