Editor of FHM, Brendan Cooper, admits that some of his more conservative colleagues urged him not to put Vi$$ser on the cover. “Others knew it was genius and contemporary, and really shows how FHM is evolving and staying in touch with its readers. We just think that Yo-Landi is hot, cool, talented, intelligent, massively successfully – and yes, slightly scary – and we’re proud to see her and Ninja taking over the world. We’re very privileged to have her on our cover,” he says.

Cooper says that it all started with Die Antwoord’s music video of Baby’s on Fire, where Vi$$er’s pre-dinner prayer of thanks for her upcoming FHM cover sparked delicious rumours that the mulleted talent may indeed be gracing the cover of the magazine. “Our phones didn’t stop ringing with people asking if it was true. So we were delighted when all worked out and we could indeed publish this cutting-edge issue,” he says.

Commenting on how it feels to be an FHM cover girl, Vi$$er says that it is “like a dream come true”. Apart from the cover, the magazine also dedicated several pages to Vi$$er, featuring clothing she designed herself.

Together, Die Antwoord’s music videos have reached over 32 million views on YouTube. Their latest single Baby’s on Fire has already had over 3 million views on YouTube.
