This M-Net channel came to life in April when several Africa Magic channels were launched to television audiences across the continent, and until now South African viewers only got a sneak peek of some of Africa Magic Entertainment's programming via the Africa Magic and Africa Magic World channels.
“Africa Magic Entertainment is a window to the programming M-Net and Africa Magic are producing outside our South African borders or for our African audiences. We are incredibly proud of these productions and trust that our DStv Premium audience in South Africa will soon be hooked to the content on the channel," says M-Net's communications manager, Lani Lombard.
Viewers will have access to current seasons of drama series and soaps like
Tinsel and
Jacob’s Cross. They will also be able to stay in touch with the rest of the continent through the channel’s lifestyle and entertainment shows such as
53 Extra,
Jara,
Mashariki Mix and
Star Gist.
53 Extra is a spin-off of the magazine show
Studio 53 and will be broadcast on Mondays at 21:30. The first born of the channel’s lifestyle shows,
53 Extra was named in honour of the African Union’s 53 states. The show predominantly covers West African and international entertainment news and is hosted by 2011’s style icon Eku Edewor and Dolapo Oni, who’s also an actress on
Jacob’s Cross.
Jara, which airs on Wednesdays at 21:30, is hosted by Nollywood’s witty duo, Uti Nwachukwu and Helen Paul. The multi-talented Paul is also a comedienne, writer and actress with a few movie roles under her belt. Nwachukwu was introduced to audiences via
Big Brother Africa as the All Stars season winner and is fast becoming Africa’s ‘IT’ boy, with his looks and charm. The show’s main feature is the pillow-of-fame which has become a celebrity in its own right, with signatures of all the guests that have visited the show.
Mashariki Mix is also a magazine show with a primary focus on East Africa. The show’s presenters Sarah Hassan and Nic Wangondu are also no strangers to the TV world. Hassan is a popular actress and Wangondu is a former
Big Brother Africa contestant. The two are able to transport viewers to some of the most colourful planes across East Africa, and you can see them in action on Tuesdays at 21:30.
Star Gist is the newer addition to the channel’s line-up and it broadcasts every weekday at 19:30.
Star Gist has the finger on the pulse when it comes to showbiz news and exclusive behind-the-scenes footage. With international correspondents, audiences are treated to celeb news as they unfold. To top all of that, the show is hosted by funky presenters, Zimbabwean model Vimbai Mutinhiri and a popular face on South African television, Lawrence Maleka.
Africa Magic Entertainment goes beyond the on-air experience, as all these shows have their own fan pages updated with the latest episode synopsis, highlights, photos, video highlights and news on
