This initiative was aimed at developing young talented clothing, footwear and jewellery designers in Johannesburg by hosting a fashion show. The 10 best designers showcased in the presence of established designers and fashion lovers alike.

The venue was perfect for the intimate gathering and cameras were flashing everywhere, not too sure whether it was at the impressive designs by the students or the impressive guest list. The sounds of DJ Kenzhero welcomed guests who waited in anticipation for the show to begin.

The event was attended by fashion designers like Reggie Molamo (ReggieStarred), Paledi Segapo (Palse Homme) and Hangwa Nengovhela (Rubicon Clothing) who also formed the a part of the judging panel. Bongani Fassie also showed support towards the initiative, saying that developing designers are hungry for a breakthrough and the SA Youth In Design is the perfect platform for them to do so.

So impressive were the designs that even the judges had difficulty selecting the winners. It all boiled down to Kutlwano Mohapi (Viscous Soul) taking 3rd place and managing to walk away with R3 500. 2nd place was a shared spot between Kathryn Green who’s a UJ Student and Matome Seshoka (Anther Line Couture) whom will each receive R5 000.

Taking the grand prize of R10 000 was Zanozuko Sithetho who’s SKORZCH male designs belong on the catwalk of any fashion show. Classy, Fresh and personal are the best way to describe it.

Each of these finalists will be granted a sales platform at The Dope Store and Thesis Concept Store for a year, while the winner will also receive business consultancy from Palse Homme which is owned by former RJK partner Paledi Segapo. The fun doesn’t end there, they will get to showcase at the SA Fashion Week Pop-Up Store in 2012.

As if the showcase wasn’t enough excitement, the energy skyrocketed when the evening's live musical act, Malik Zwane began performing. Nkanyezi Kubheka also kept everyone on the dance floor until the early hours of the morning.

Boogy Maboi, who was our MC for the night did an amazing job. For someone who’s new at this, she played it safe by being, short and brief and straight to the point with a bit of humour thrown in.

Brands like Avon, Mangwanani and JimmiJagga showed their support towards the initiative by being partners.
