Auditions will be held until the end of February, and the weekly choir practise takes place throughout the year every Monday night from 19:00 to 22:00 at the Elsies River Civic Centre in Halt Road, Elsies River.

Established in 1997, ComArt is a registered non-profit community organisation based in Elsies River that provides access to arts training and resources as a means to promote community growth, development and nation building. Under the direction of Professor Davids, both the adult and children’s choirs make a critical contribution to the preservation of choral music in the Mother City. The adult choir has performed extensively nationwide and also recorded a CD.

“The Choristers are at the heart of our commitment to community development, which includes providing opportunities for emerging young musicians through the youth programme,” says Professor Davids. “The choir has a busy year lined up and we are looking for adult male singers to be part of our programme.”

The ComArt Choristers perform in ComArt’s popular annual concerts, including the Easter Cantata, the Youth Celebrations in June and the Festival of Carols in December. “In addition, we have been invited to perform at a number of concerts, including the Zulu Mass at St George’s Cathedral later this year.”

Applicants need not have any prior experience but will need to have an informal audition with Professor Davids. To book an audition for the ComArt Choir, email [email protected] or visit the Community Arts Association (ComArt) Facebook page or contact Adele at 021 931 7868 on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 11:00 and 16:00.
