Accompanied by leading South African pianist, Pieter Jacobs, Avanesyan - who plays an early 18th century Stradivarius violin - will perform a selection of well-known classical works by Schuman, Debussy, Saint Saens, Strauss and Tchaikovsky.

The recital on Sunday, 30 June, features the Pauna-Redfern Piano Duo comprising Laura Pauna and James Redfern. As soloists both pianists have been hailed for their exceptional talent. As winner of the IBLA International Competition in Italy, Redfern made his Carnegie Hall New York debut in May 2012, while Pauna has established herself internationally, both as a soloist and as a chamber musician.

One of South Africa’s finest pianists, Kathleen Tagg, will be joined by the outstanding Paarl-based violinist Piet de Beer on Sunday, 28 July. Together this dynamic duo will perform a sumptuous repertoire that includes Ravel’s Tzigane, Stravinsky’s Dithyrambe, Debussy’s sonata for violin and piano, as well as some of their own compositions.

The winners of the 2012 Fiesta Award for the Best Classical Music Production, A Trio with a Twist, grace the Nederburg stage on Sunday, 25 August. Sisters, Bridget Rennie Salonen (flute) and Lizzie Rennie (viola) are joined by one of South Africa’s most sought-after musical directors Janine Neethling (piano). Together they will astound patrons with a unique and whimsical programme of original classical works written for flute, viola and piano, as well as alter perceptions with innovative arrangements of well-known South African melodies.

In what has become a tradition at Nederburg, the recital on Sunday, 29 September will feature three of South Africa’s leading emerging talents. Accompanied by distinguished South African pianist Philippus Hugo; soprano, Hlengiwe Mkhwanazi will make her Nederburg debut. Mkhwanazi was placed first at the 2012 ATKV-Musiqanto Song and will appear alongside the winners of the 2012 ATKV-Muziq competition, percussionists Cherilee Adams and Dylan Tabisher.

A soprano of exceptional verve and talent, Mkhwanazi won the silver medal in thw 2012 annual Hans Gobour Belvedere International Singing Competition in Vienna where she also walked off with the media jury prize, the audience prize and the Salzburg festival audition prize. Sharing the stage with Mkhwanazi, Adams and Tabisher, who together form the Stellenbosch University Percussion Duo, are currently studying for their Masters degrees at the University of Stellenbosch.

The Sunday, 27 October recital will feature one of the country’s leading wind quintets, the Amadeus Quintet. Established in 1982, the group is South Africa's oldest woodwind quintet and play a varied repertoire of classical and light music. The members are Elsabé Pretorius (flute) Henk Pretorius (oboe) Becky Steltzner (clarinet) Natalie Lawrenson (horn) and Simon Ball (bassoon). Their programme will include works ranging from Romantic repertoire by Respighi and Taffanel, to some fun, light-hearted works in the second half of the performance.

All chamber music recitals from May until October will take place in the newly refurbished Nederburg Manor House, now hosting the Red Table Restaurant. Tickets are R180 per person and include sherry on arrival and Nederburg bubbly during interval. Following the recital patrons can look forward to a variety of new winter menus which will include mouth-watering soups, freshly baked bread and a selection of canapés paired with award-winning Nederburg wines.

Ushering in the summer season at the annual Nederburg picnic concert on Saturday, 23 November will be the award winning trio, Sterling EQ. The trio’s combination of electric strings and flute has won them legions of fans, as well as a 2011 SAMA and the 2013 Ghoema Music Award for the Best Instrumental Album. The trio will share the stage with a recently formed quintet, the South African Sopranos - all soloists in their own right - whose mesmerising vocals won them this year’s Kanna Award for best Classical Production at the KKNK.

The festive picnic concert starts at 17:00 on the Nederburg Manor House’s sprawling lawns. Gates open at 15:00 to allow patrons to set up their picnic spots. Concert tickets are R80 for adults, while entry is free for children under 12 years. Picnic platters can be ordered ahead of time and collected before the performance.

Lira will welcome the New Year in style when she is accompanied by the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra at Nederburg‘s annual New Year’s Eve picnic concert on Tuesday, 31 December. Ticket price to be confirmed closer to the time.
