The show, which will be hitting South African screens on Monday, 17 June exclusively on Boomerang, in the Cartoonito block, will entice children across the country to walk the 11 000 kilometres (2.2 million steps) between Cape Town and Cairo.

LazyTown and Cartoonito have joined forces with schools around the country which will all join in by doing a fun LazyTown exercise routine with their favourite superhero Sportacus. The exercise will cover 500 steps per student, all of which will be entered into an online database that will calculate the cumulative steps achieved towards the target of 2.2 million.

Anyone can contribute their child’s steps to the grand total by visiting www.cartoonitoafrica.com/walk and taking part. If they do they can be in with a chance of winning fantastic LazyTown prizes.

LazyTown is keen to get South African kids moving and exercising in a fun way. Children around the country can look forward to 13 new half-hour shows packed with fun whilst they follow the adventures of action hero Sportacus, aspiring dancer Stephanie, resident villain Robbie Rotten and the rest of the LazyTown gang.

"The show is a ground-breaking television series that endeavours to inspire young children around the world to lead an active healthy lifestyle. Creating programming like LazyTown directly aligns with Cartoonito’s preschool strategy, and I am delighted that Turner Broadcasting has now fully developed and produced this new seaons," said Tal Hewitt, general manager and vice president, Middle East & Africa for Turner Broadcasting System.

The brand new third series once again stars its creator Magnus Scheving as Sportacus, with a new actress, ten-year-old Chloe Lang in the role of the show’s much loved female character Stephanie, who can’t be missed with her bright pink hair, only matched by her dazzling personality.

Created as a concept nearly 20 years ago by Magnus Scheving, LazyTown is the only global entertainment brand dedicated to kids’ health. It aims to motivate kids and their families to make positive lifestyle choices in a fun, entertaining and inspirational way.

Though this series was filmed in HD, as usual, in the LazyTown Studios in Iceland, the special effects were created this time round by Turner Studios in Atlanta, with a clever mix of live action, puppetry and CGI.

The new series was produced by Magnus Scheving and Björn Thorir Sigurdsson and directed by Magnus Scheving and Sigvaldi J. Karason.

Catch the new third season of LazyTown on South African television screens only on Boomerang, channel 302 on DStv. The show will feature weekdays from Monday, 17 June at 07:30 with repeats at 10:50.
