Written in honour of a teacher who passed away in 2009, the ballad explores themes of grief and loss as well as the acceptance and healing that comes with time.

Memoriam is about any kind of loss, not just death,” said Delazy. “It could be the loss of a relationship or even oneself. I sing about accepting things that are hard to bear. It’s like melodic medicine for the soul.”

Through the writing process, Delazy was able to work through the heartache of losing her own mother, an event that occurred during her final year of school.

“Writing Memoriam was cathartic. It was a way for me to let go of the pain that I was burying deep inside,” she said. “I believe that God gives and God takes away and I’d like to believe that my mom is in a better place, rather than viewing it as a horrible tragedy. It’s this positive message that I was hoping to bring through my music.”

Delazy’s debut album has been acclaimed by both critics and fans and has since been re-packaged as a Deluxe Version that includes all five hit singles bonus DVD with all music videos, plus a behind-the-scenes documentary film titled It Takes A Lot To Make A Classic.
