Disney Channel South Africa has just partnered with one of the country’s biggest surf celebrities for the release of its biggest Disney Channel Original Movie (DCOM) for 2013. Cape Town surfer and model Roxy Louw will be the local face of this summer’s musical television film phenomenon Teen Beach Movie.
Teen Beach Movie, set to follow in the world wide craze of Disney Channel’s High School Musical is a modern take on retro beach party movies starring Ross Lynch (of Disney Channel's "Austin & Ally" and Hollywood Records' R5) and Maia Mitchell (ABC Family's upcoming "The Fosters") as Brady and McKenzie. In the film surfers Brady and McKenzie take the last wave of summer - one that mysteriously takes them into a classic beach party movie, Wet Side Story. There it's surfers versus bikers for control of the beach hangout… and everyone spontaneously breaks into song and dance. Brady and McKenzie must try to return to present day, but their lives may be changed forever when they inadvertently change the movie's romantic storyline - and the movie's handsome surf guy, Tanner, is falling for McKenzie while biker girl Lela is swooning for Brady.
Being a successful determined surfer, Roxy was selected to be the local “Mc Kenzie.” Says Louw, “When I was approached to be the local Mc Kenzie I was very excited. We are very similar. Just like her I am at my happiest when I am surfing. Also, just like her, I am very goal-driven and dedicated.”
