Ligwalagwala FM mourns the sudden passing and untimely death of one of its family members, Phumlile 'Lanyambose' Mthethwa who used to present the Wake Up Call Vukuyibambe every weekday mornings from 03:00am to 05:30. She passed away on Thursday, 7 November at Steve Biko Hospital, Pretoria.
She was full of life, inspirational, an extrovert and loved being a radio DJ.
She was not only heard on air by her listeners but also touched a lot of lives; she used to host motivational talks at different schools around the Lowveld. She was also involved in a lot of Corporate Social Responsibility initiates that she initiated. The first initiative was a school uniform donation to her former school, Emjindini Secondary school for destitute learners; the second one was on Mandela day, where she prepared lunch with her colleagues for the elders of Emjindi. She also spear headed Emjindi Reunion Alumni.
She has executed her work diligently with dedication, always willing to go the extra mile. She would at times stand in for Lungile Mhango during Siyadvumisa, Sunday Gospel Show (07:00 to 09:00) and the Tfokomala Nami, Weekdays (10:00 to Noon). She was also nominated twice for the Best Traditional Music DJ at the South African Traditional Music Awards in 2009 and 2012.
Her faith, her son and her family played a huge role in her life. She will be greatly missed by her son, family, friends, colleagues and her listeners.
