This popular musical by Kevin Feather, first leapt into life on Tuesday, 13 August 1985 in The Laundro, a small experimental venue under the stage of the Alexander Theatre in Johannesburg. It enjoyed sell-out seasons, standing ovations and acclaim from the media when it played for three years all over South Africa.

In 1995, Feather took the show to the Edinburgh Festival where it also garnered rave reviews.

This mini-musical revival depicts one night in the life of three street hookers who share their dreams and realities, their trials and tribulations. Audiences will be transported to the world of the 'tart' on a musical journey, witnessing the serious and the funny side of the world’s oldest profession.

The songs are drawn from the pens of some of the showbiz world's most celebrated writers including Stephen Sondheim, Cole Porter, Kander and Ebb, Menken and Ashman and the Gershwin brothers. The songs include Love for Sale, Can That Boy Foxtrot, 24 Hours of Lovin', Somewhere That's Green, The Man I Love and Maybe This Time. In addition there are several new songs written especially for the show by Feather.

This 2013 version of Tarts will be given a fresh coat of paint with the addition of some great new songs, updated dialogue and brand new choreography by Owen Lonzar.

With Feather on the piano, Tarts will star some of South Africa’s finest award-winning musical theatre performers, Judy Ditchfield and Ilse Klink while introducing Caitlin Clerk.
