In 2014, there is a spin-off that has been added to the awards in the form of a Public Viewing Area, which will be held at the Peoples Park, Moses Mabhida Stadium.

Tickets will be sold to the public, through Computicket for the Public Viewing Area and will cost R150 for general or R450 for VIP. Tickets purchased at the gate for the Public Viewing Area will cost R200 for general or R550 for VIP.

The viewing area will be transformed into the 'Official After-Party' immediately after the awards ceremony is over.

This means that 10 000 more people will see the awards beaming live on big screens and afterwards be part of the sought after after-party, an experience that was previously reserved for the lucky crowd who managed to get tickets first. Nominated acts such as Uhuru Big Nuz AKA Professor and more will be joined by Metro FM deejays such as Oskido, T-bo Touch, DJ Sbu, Amon and more.

Presented with eThekwini Municipality, this event also expands the municipality’s message of Durban being 'the tourism destination of choice'. Furthermore, this opportunity means that the Metro FM Music Awards, which have become a draw-card for the city, will accommodate many more people from all over the country, who have always wanted to be part of the event.

The awards will be broadcast live on Saturday, 1 March on SABC1 at 20:00.
