Signal High, South Africa’s first mini-series within a magazine show, concluded with a series cliffhanger that left Hectic Nine-9 followers causing mayhem on social media platforms.
The networks were buzzing with discussion around the storylines … Leigh’s nasty habits, Sim’s cash-for-homework transactions, heartthrob and smooth-talker Dan’s sexuality discovery, and the possibility that Leigh is really pregnant with a teacher’s baby.
Following the enormous success of the first season, Okuhle Media’s Hectic Nine-9 dream-team got back to work on the second season, one which is set to be a thrilling encounter with the secrets, lies and drama in the corridors of Signal High.
“Season 2 will see the lives of the pupils at Signal High continue to reflect those of the youth of South Africa today. At the heart of the show are topics ranging from prescription drugs, sexuality, disability and even initiation,” said Noleen Nagel, content producer on Season 2. “Not only are the youth able to be represented, but they also gain insights into the circumstances affecting the lives of other young South Africans across the traditional and cultural spectrum.”
“I felt a real sense of intensity on set in this year,” noted Hectic Nine-9 producer David Stein. “I believe that this was because the issues we were addressing are so real and cut so close to the vein for many young people in this country.”
“We were all aware that we were tackling challenging topics, and each person on set felt the huge responsibility we carried. Of course we were working to create great drama and entertainment, but by being there we had also committed ourselves to dealing with real issues in a responsible and sensitive way,” concluded Stein.
The filming of Signal High season two took place, once again, at Delia Sainsbury and Paul Griffiths’ Waterfront Theatre School with the cast back on set and excited as ever to perform.
“The Waterfront Theatre School is once again delighted to be associated with Signal High and the creative team from Okuhle Media,” said Griffiths. “The benefits for our students of having this opportunity to work closely with an experienced production team on such an exciting project cannot be underestimated.”
“The shoot schedule for this season was significantly longer and more elaborate with a more extensive narrative and an epic and dramatic ending, including the much anticipated Signal High talent show,” said Nagel. “The cast and crew were hard at work (caffeine on tap) ensuring that the depth of season two on paper was achieved on screen.”
Signal High season two premieres on Hectic Nine-9 on Tuesday, 16 September on SABC2.
