Carstens’ cooking offers a playful twist on favourite South African dishes while focusing on seasonal ingredients and tantalising textures. Carstens said it’s encouraging to receive such recognition from the media and peers.

Carstens joined Tokara as head chef in October 2010 and during the four years he has been there he has ensured that the restaurant remains both popular and credible. Carstens, a one-time Eat Out Chef of The Year, is no stranger to Eat Out accolades and is regarded as a chef who is constantly evolving and consistently innovative. His food is exciting and, as always, totally in keeping with what the best in the world are offering diners from their kitchens.

In addition to creating fine dining experiences for diners at Tokara, Carstens has now lent his considerable expertise to a new menu at the Tokara Deli. This Summer, guests can enjoy a more informal family-friendly, dining experience at the newly revamped Tokara Deli, secure in the knowledge that the food will be of the highest quality.

Tokara Restaurant is open for lunch Mondays to Sundays and for dinner Tuesdays to Saturdays from November 2014 to Easter Weekend 2015. Kindly note that Tokara restaurant is a non- smoking venue.
