As a duo Bish and Fish bring a fresh new outlook to radio, sharing their life experiences with listeners who warmed to them over the past six months where they headed up the afternoon drive show on HOT919.
When asked why they moved stations, Bish and Fish expressed their desire to work more closely with the community and felt that MixFM would be a better fit for their style of broadcasting and their interest in community.
Bishop, affectionately known as Bish, was born in the UK where he became an international club DJ, working major venues in Europe and the United States. His first taste of radio came on San Francisco’s KFRC, where he freelanced for its dance shows. When he immigrated to South Africa, he joined Capital Radio and worked his way through the ranks, hosting both the breakfast and drive shows and top 40 countdowns.
He held the post of programme manager when Capital Radio was closed down by the government in 1996. He was headhunted to host the breakfast show on Algoa FM in Port Elizabeth, where he met Elise Fish who became his co-host before relocating to Johannesburg in 2000. Bishop has since worked as a freelancer on Radio 2000 and 702 and launched SA Stream, the first web-streaming radio station to expat South Africans abroad. He is a well-known voice artist, featuring prominently on Supersport and radio and TV commercials.
Elise Fish is no stranger to media. Following her years studying drama through the Trinity College in London and Rhodes University, she studied public relations and human resources. She joined BOP TV as a news anchor in the early 80s, has conceptualised and hosted TV and radio shows and started her public relations and marketing company which operated in Bophuthatswana and Port Elizabeth.
Fish started her radio career at Algoa FM, gaining a decade of experience co-hosting and producing breakfast and afternoon drive shows. She also has years of experience in news departments, editing and presenting. She hosted the Saturday Morning Sport Show, working alongside people like Kepler Wessels. She was also the marketing manager of the station.
Her philanthropic nature saw her driving a fundraising initiative and raising millions for various charities. Fish did this for five years and says these projects were extremely important to her.
“The Media Connection looks forward to hearing Bish and Fish on MixFM, one of the community radio stations that we represent,” says Judy Milne, CEO of The Media Connection.
“MixFM already offers its listeners and advertisers a host of talented DJs and music specialists, playing great music and providing a variety of informative shows to inspire, educate and inform its community. The addition of Bish and Fish is the cherry on the top,” she adds.
