With Spring Day around the corner and the flowers beginning to bloom, Groote Post is inviting those in the Western Cape to head out to the Darling Hills for the wine farm’s first monthly market of the new season.
Guests can expect artisan foods, arts and crafts, homeware and décor, and of course, Groote Post’s wines. Their newly released 2015 wines will also be on offer, and according to the estate this harvest was one of their best ever.
A line-up of entertainment will also be on offer. Local band Klassik will be performing live, and for a touch of drama, Augustus, a highly-acclaimed short play by a visiting Dutch theatre group at will also be performed.
All the old stalls will be back, as well as some new exciting ones such as Nellie’s Homemade Pies from Langebaan and Gerrit van Dalen of Koekedoor fame presenting his delectable treats.
Darling gourmet produce including Darling mushrooms, Weskus Worswa, Udderly Delicious Cheese, Darling Pomegranate Products, Saucy Boys’ organic preservative-free chilli sauces, marinades and spices, Darling Sweet’s handmade toffees, Darling Brew’s popular craft beers, and more will all be on offer.
Children will have the rolling lawns, playground, tractor rides, face painting, water-balls, guided horse rides and target-shooting to keep them busy. While the sheep-shearing demonstration will be popular with both kids and adults.
After browsing through the market, visitors can relax in the shade under the trees while tucking into their eats from the market. Groote Post’s award-winning restaurant, Hilda’s Kitchen, will be open as usual, but please note that booking is essential.
Although pets are welcome – all dogs must be on a leash at all times. Visitors arriving without their dogs on a leash will be given an option to buy one from the SPCA stall or hire one at the information stall.
Entry to the Groote Post Country Market is free of charge.
