Following a nationwide search, where Mzansi’s best up and coming artists filled up different venues across the country, with a hope to make the cut for the Underground & Independent Local to International Pathways (U & I LIPS) Project Grand Finale, the stage has now been set as the Third SA Indies Music Week is set to kick-off at Gold Reef City on Wednesday, 16 December for the selected finalists.

This event by The Independent Music Exporters South Africa (IMEXSA) is now in its third year and has grown significantly over time. IMEXSA's focus is to develop and increase the number of music exporters in South Africa by identifying trade opportunities and assisting companies to take advantage of those opportunities. It has been operating over the past six years. During this time they have participated in and presented South African Unsigned and Independent Music Professionals at various major international events like Popkomm-Germany, Womex UK, Primavera Pro – Spain, Canada Music Week in Toronto, Midem (France), Womex (UK), CMJ (New York) and South by Southwest (SXSW) in Austin – Texas.

The SA Indies Music Week is the showpiece of the entire U & I LIPS program, with an international trade fair selection committee, guest celebrities and media houses in attendance. This will make a truly memorable event for everyone involved. It will be a five-day event, where in the evening selected artists will perform in front of local and international music specialists, and during the first four days there will also be a rolling programme of master classes and workshops about the future of music industry. During these workshops, industry professionals and artists will have special mentor sessions and also question and answer sessions.
