One day, a lion came to the library … so begins the story of friendship and acceptance. The play is about a library, where, just like all libraries, the rules are very clear: "No shouting". "No running". "No food or drink allowed". However, one day, a special guest enters the library, a lion, and since there is no rule prohibiting a lion from entering, he is allowed to enter. To everyone's amazement, and to the delight of the children, the lion adapts to life in the library.

When the lion shows up for story time, Miss Merriweather, the head librarian, makes it clear that the lion can only stay if he follows the rules. That includes being quiet; in other words, “No Roaring”. The lion loves story time and visits the library every day. He follows all the rules and even comes in early to help Miss Merriweather. One day, something bad happens and the only way the lion can help is by making a great big roar. The sad lion knows he has broken the rules and leaves the library. The children and the adults are heartbroken and search for him. Finally, everybody learns that "sometimes there is a good reason to break the rules" and makes a joyous return to story time at the library.

The creative team includes Stan Knight (set), Jane Gosnell (lighting), and Sarah Roberts (costumes).

Children learn that rules are to be followed, but sometimes it's permissible to go against them if it's an emergency. The message is presented in a non-frightening manner that will warm children's hearts.

The Library Lion runs Mondays to Saturdays during the government school term.

The shows run daily at 09:30 and 12:30 during the school term.
