Channel O’s new, continental flagship show, Channel O Sprite Emcee Africa, is a reality-based talent search show that travels through parts of Africa with the aim of crowning the King or Queen of Africa’s lyrical freestyle arena.

Sprite Emcee Africa will visit 6 African countries to host the battle for national lyrical supremacy. This opportunity is open to anybody who can make similes, kiss metaphors and bring the house down in the process. National winners will fly to Johannesburg, South Africa, to compete in the Grand Finale which will be filmed live on Saturday, 8 March.

The King or Queen Emcee will receive continental exposure as well as a $10 000 cash prize. He or she will feature in a collaboration with Freestyle Guru ‘Wordsworth’ from New York and will get a music video made for Channel O as part of the winnings.

A media conference will take place at M-Net head office in Randburg on Tuesday, 5 February at 10:00 which will be followed by a Hip Hop round table media session where prominent players in the industry will discuss the status of SA Hip Hop for the Channel O cameras. The South African Channel O Sprite Emcee Africa heat will then take place in Johannesburg on Saturday, 9 February.

Contestants will be short-listed and screened through Channel O’s daily live show OBoma between 15:00 and 17:00 and on YFM’s midday show Da Joint hosted by Ak and Lee.

Prospective freestyle battle Emcee’s are requested to call the EMCEE hotline on 083 916 0909 and register to take part.
