Cape Town radio station Heart 104.9FM is quite literally going where no other radio station has gone before. Last week the first of a series of “Heart On The Move” outside broadcasts saw the Afternoon Drive team broadcasting live from the deck of a yacht as it cruised around Table Bay. This venture was the first ever nautical broadcast in the history of radio.

On Friday, 14 March, the station will be doing the first ever broadcast live in traffic with its listeners. The Bokomo Hearty Breakfast Team will be escorting one of its listeners to work from the Southern Suburbs traveling down the M5, with traffic guru Eddie Chinnappen from the City of Cape Town joining them on their journey.

Over the next two weeks the station will be making more history with live broadcasts from more “secret locations” that will be the envy of other radio stations throughout the country. The station will also be taking listeners with them to all of these exotic locations.

The key to Heart 104.9FM's groundbreaking mobile broadcasting capacity is the acquisition of new technology from America. According to their Broadcast Technician, Babu Parker, the station can offer almost studio quality broadcasting from anywhere with a 3G signal. This opens vast opportunities to genuinely take the station to its listeners.

Programme Manager, Vernon Adams, is delighted. “Heart 104.9FM's number one priority has always been to offer radio that reflects the real life of the community of Cape Town. Now we can be absolutely anywhere the people are and still offer a high quality product,” says Adams.

The March series of “Heart On The Move” broadcasts is designed to excite the advertising and marketing industry's imagination, and is set to result in some of the most exciting radio that Cape Town has experienced.
