DeKat magazine decided to go independent. In July 2002,
DeKat was taken over by African Sky Publishing under the watchful eye of publisher, Elzilda Becker. The bigger format (320 x 240 mm) changed from a quarterly publication to a bimonthly glossy lifestyle magazine in 2007, with
Dekat’s sixth English edition currently on the shelves.
During the last two years
DeKat has scooped six of the most prestigious awards in the industry - the Silver Sappi African Printer of the Year Award in 2005, the Mondi Award for Visual Impact for DeKat covers in 2006, the ADMAG Advantage "Best Lifestyle magazine" Gold Award 2006, the 2007 PICA award for Best Photography and two highly commended PICA awards for Cover of the Year (March 2007) and Designer of the Year (March 2007). DeKat also registered with the ABC board in 2007, opening with a circulation of 15 464.
