This is the first time in five years Else and Vorster have written a song together after their many hits such as
De La Rey,
Ons Vir Jou Suid-Afrika,
Tyd Om Te Trek,
Die Kaplyn,
Pa en Seun,
68 Chevy,
Jy Praat Nog Steeds My Taal,
My Kreet and more.
“The song, called
Modder en Bloed, is inspired by the film and speaks of guilt and blaming yourself for not being able to defend your family and to do what you must do as a person or group of people to rise from the ashes… from the mud and blood… you must turn back to God and find the strength within to carry on,” says Else.
Well-known singer and actor Bok van Blerk, who also stars in the film, sings the theme song and it started playing on radio stations nationwide this week.
Adds Else, “The song, like the film, not only speaks to the characters and time of the Anglo Boer War, but is universal and can apply to any person or group of people who needs to find the strength and determination to save what they have… be it material or spiritual.”
The film is set during the Anglo Boer War in South Africa and tells the story of a group of brave Boer prisoners of war who are held captive on the island of St. Helena in the Atlantic Ocean. There they have an opportunity to stand up against the British Empire by playing the most important game of their lives…
South African and British actors include, among others, Stian Bam, Altus Theart, Grant Swanby, Edwin van der Walt, Charlotte Salt, Marno van der Merwe, David Louw, Gustav Gerdener and Patrick Connolly.
The film was produced by Dark Matter Studios and Collective Dream Films and releases nationwide on Friday, 1 April 2016.
Modder en Bloed is distributed by Ster-Kinekor Entertainment.
