It was bright but chilly at the Jeep dealership as the #Joburg2kili team, supporters, and fellow cyclists arrived to wave goodbye to the team before they embarked on their expedition. As expected, Warrick and Camilla Kernes arrived at the dealership all warmed up and ready to take on the road. The team and their supporters all tried to beat the cold with warm coffee, and Camilla appeared in front of the cameras to talk about what was waiting for them as everyone started to arrive.

The turnout was incredible, and by 8:15, the team proceeded with their farewell speeches. Warrick explained that from Bryanston, the team will be heading to Stornoway Lodge, where more supporters will be gathered to have one last coffee with the cyclists before they say their last farewells and continue with the rest of the day’s kilometres.

Once all the speeches were done and final hugs were given, supporters crowded all sides of the dealership, making way for the team and their convoy of Jeeps to come through. Their journey started on William Nicol Drive, where they were led out by ER24 and backed up by many volunteer cyclists, who would accompany them to Stornoway Lodge.

The #Joburg2Kili team now consists of four members; Warrick and Camilla Kernes, Gareth Pickering, and Derrick Fourie, all of them South African adventure enthusiasts. Among four of the cyclists, Warrick, Camilla and Gareth will continually post update on their blogs, websites and social media to keep supporters informed on all their sightings and explorations along the way.

media update would like to wish the team good luck and safe travels on their journey.
