Up until now, the Proteas are unbeaten in pink – and this will be the fifth time the team plays in pink.
Standard Bank, the official sponsor of the Proteas for four years, stands behind the Proteas in this initiative and will donate R400 for every four and R600 for every six scored by a Proteas player, as well as R1 000 for every wicket taken by a Proteas player.
"Cancer awareness and education is such an important cause in our society today and we are fully behind our boys and all supporters as they don pink on Saturday. Breast cancer has a hugely negative impact on families and the donations received from sponsors, fans, and players can play a major role in heightening chances of prevention and improving facilities and support," says Hazel Chimhandamba, head of group sponsorship for Standard Bank.
A capacity crowd is expected to cheer the team on the field on Saturday, but to also support the breast cancer cause.
"Fans are really getting behind the pink theme and a veritable sea of pink can be expected in the stadium," says Chimhandamba. "Spectators either wear pink to the game or purchase items like pink caps and shirts at the ground. Fans everywhere can get involved by donating as little as R20 via sms to 40158 by smsing the word cricket. The Proteas share the ideals and values that we advocate and strive to embody. Cricket represents the unstoppable spirit of South Africans that we want to encourage. This will really ring true in the bullring on Saturday. This is an important game and we will be cheering the Proteas on to what will hopefully be their fifth successive victory in pink."
