Recycling and, in particular, glass recycling is an easy way to make a positive impact on the environment and appreciate Global Recycling Day. Glass can be recycled endlessly without a decrease in the quality of the product.

We should all be celebrating individuals, communities and organisations that are leading the way in sustainable practices, including the recycling of waste. We can all make a difference to the environment.

Here are four ways that we can improve our recycling methods:

1. Familiarise yourself with your nearest glass bank

Make sure you know where to take all your glass bottles and jars in order to recycle them. TGRC places glass banks at convenient locations to allow members of the community to drop off glass for recycling.

Schools, shopping centers and service stations offer ideal sites for glass banks. You can locate your nearest glass recycling bank by visiting TGRC's website or Facebook page.

2. Recycle and buy recycled products

Imagine all of the complex processes needed to create new items from scratch. After mining the raw materials, you need to then transport the material, clean it from impurities, process and treat it until it is finally transformed into the desired end-products.

While reducing the processes in sourcing raw materials by recycling, you'll also be reducing the demand for energy and cutting down on CO2 emissions.

3. Separate the different materials

Keep it simple. If you want your family to start recycling, you'll have more success if you make it an easy and fun activity. Place your family's recycling bins in a high-traffic area, like near the rubbish bin. Make sure that each bin is clearly marked to help children separate waste.

4. Participate on social media

Be sure to use your social media platforms on the day to initiate conversations about Global Recycling Day. This will encourage your followers and friends to recycle, while emphasising the role that this plays in protecting the environment.

Aim to ensure that we are reaping the benefits of recycling; reduction in global warming, reduced air pollution and carbon emissions and a cleaner, greener environment are all good reasons to practice recycling.
