Digify Africa has announced that it will be part of 2020's Loeries Instagram Challenge. The challenge is targeted at tertiary students across Africa and the Middle East who are required to submit a campaign through the Loeries website for InstaStories.

The Loeries Instagram Student Challange, which has been running for the past four years, aims to not only engage with young creatives but also to encourage them to find creative solutions to key social challenges.

Each year, students are given a brief that focuses on addressing a social concern.

According to the Loeries, underage drinking remains a pressing societal problem, with South Africa currently ranked as the third-largest consumer of alcohol in Africa and the 19th in the world.

A survey conducted by Aware.org indicates that 49% of learners interviewed at a high school had consumed alcohol at least once during their high school tenure. These figures are cause for concern, taking into account the detrimental effects of alcohol on a young person, says the Loeries

The Loeries Instagram challenge aims to get young people to use social media for good by raising awareness of underage drinking.

To help students get started, Digify Africa has indicated that it is currently hosting a series of online workshops that will teach University students how to best use Instagram tools to build an award-winning campaign. The campaign must highlight the dangers of underage drinking in a fun and creative way.

The training is delivered in South Africa, Kenya and Nigeria, and students can accept the challenge as well as register for the current online training happening for the various countries on this link: https://facebookchallenge.splashthat.com/.

"We are calling on all University students to take advantage of this opportunity and to use their creativity to start an important conversation around this silent crisis," says the team at Digify Africa.

The winning campaign will be produced professionally and winners will get to showcase their work to millions of people on Instagram. The winners will also be invited to attend the 2020 Loeries Creative Week in Johannesburg and be a representative of their institution to receive the award on stage at the awards ceremony.
