Nelisa Mabenge, CEO of Meals On Wheels says that the non-profit organisation is ready to hit the ground running with relief to KwaZulu-Natal communities affected by heavy rains that resulted in the destruction of infrastructure.

"As a non-profit organisation that specialises in (but not limited to), providing meals to the destitute, we believe that hunger is the extreme materialisation of poverty and human deprivation; therefore, mitigation of this, especially during this tragic disaster, is vital," says Mabenge.

Mabenge adds, "Food must be the least of things that the residents worry about, especially at a time like this. We are committed as an organisation to provide a meal and any other form of support during this time to assist the residents that are affected by the KwaZulu-Natal Floods."

MOWCS says that it will be providing cooked meals to all the camps where residents are currently sheltered following devastating floods that wreaked havoc in different parts of KwaZulu-Natal, especially the coastal belt, which includes:
  • eThekwini Municipality
  • Ilembe District
  • parts of uMgungundlovu, and
  • Ugu Districts.
MOWCS says that it will further assess the situation and the damages thereof to provide more assistance to the affected communities.

The organisation says that it is inviting strategic partners and donors to join efforts in responding more effectively to this disaster as some areas are not accessible.
