Netflix's Enola Holmes was a goodie — it has the right balance of costume, character and quirky going on!

And the fact that its sequel is coming very soon makes this little writer very happy.

So, while we wait for the upcoming second film, let's recap and revisit the gems that this film has given to its viewers.

Read on as media update's Robyn du Preez checks out five quotes from Netflix's Enola Holmes that PR pros can learn from:

1. "Try to be excited, not disappointed, at the possibilities of something new" — Eudoria

Change is scary; it's something that many of us do not look forward to facing on the daily.

The most common reason for this is because what we know and our routines only present us with the expected.

For a PR pro, it's no different. Nevertheless, brand reputations, social media, PR crises and the like prevent this career path from ever being set in one routine.

This is where Eudoria's quote speaks the truth. Ironically, we should expect the unexpected and the new, and plan for changes. But it's the 'how' that's critical here: Be excited about all the potential that change can bring.

Who knows, the path could:
  • grow your career
  • have you meet someone important, or
  • even help you find out more about your own self in the process.

2. "Historical perspective is the only way to begin the day" — Eudoria

So, now that we are in the right mindset, perhaps it's time to ensure that we are within the right contexts too.

Knowing where we have been helps us to see more clearly where we are headed. It also prevents us from repeating the same mistakes that were made in the past, saving us time and effort.

For PR pros especially, knowing what the industry has seen, experienced and has come through will give context into areas such as:
  • what contemporary clients expect
  • what areas are the strengths and weak points of the industry
  • the specifics of public relations practices in a country, culture or region, and
  • identifying and implementing the right trends in the space.

3. "I have kept every clipping of every case of yours I could ever find" — Enola

Ah, the role model. Yes, they are important too. Just like Enola, we all have someone that we admire … and maybe even stalk on social.

But for a PR, the gem in this quote is something a little bit different from upping your stalker skill.

Unlike the paparazzi, you don't have to climb over high fences. You also don't have to go full-on detective like Enola and swap clothes with people all the time to not get caught snooping.

Nope, you just need a media monitoring company that tracks down every mention in the media regarding your client. Why? Because, for one, it's easier this way. Two, this offering can help you prove your ROI — among other things.

Be a little more like Enola: Keep all the clippings.

4. "Perhaps it's a world that needs changing" — Enola

A popular movement that is making waves in business is being more aware of our eco-footprint.

Sustainability, environmentally-friendly products, as well as organic products and solutions are the favourite — and for just reasons!

So, we can unarguably agree that the more sustainable your brand and clients are, the better business will be for you.

5. "Our future is up to us" — Enola

Coming back full circle, change is inevitable. It's the best thing that can happen, though, if we approach it in the right way.

Public relations is more than a career.

It is a position of privilege to sit on the steps of the world and have an impact on what is being communicated outwards. And for this, we tip our hat and acknowledge your part in this — props to the pros!

Remember your impact. You have a say in our future, and your voice is leading the rest of ours. We cannot wait to see what you do.
