BB Bakeries is a heritage brand in KwaZulu-Natal and has been part of the community for more than 170 years.

According to the brand, the province was devastated by floods in 2022, where roughly 40 000 people were displaced and further untold damage to families and communities. BB Bakeries wanted to help restore those homes, one loaf at a time and put back the smiles on people's faces.

"We care deeply about our communities, and that is why post the devastating flooding in the region, we partnered with Habitat for Humanity SA to help give back to you, our beloved 'KZNers'," says Stephanie Hoy, Premier FMCG's marketing executive.

"Habitat for Humanity is renowned for actively building homes for communities in need. And during the campaign held earlier this year, for every loaf of BB Bakeries bread bought, BB Bakeries donated bricks to Habitat for Humanity. This resulted in a total of four new homes being built in partnership with Habitat for Humanity," adds Hoy.

Habitat for Humanity SA board chair Kgotla Bantsi says, "Building houses and restoring dignity and hope to communities is at the very core of what we do. We are very grateful for the partnership with BB Bakeries building homes for those in need in the region."

According to the duo, each home was also furnished with household items courtesy of BB Bakeries, including:
  • beds
  • bedding and linen
  • dinner sets and crockery
  • towels
  • lamps and lighting, and
  • gas heaters and cylinders.

"Habitat for Humanity believes in building strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter. They are perfectly aligned with the homegrown values and inherent generosity of the BB Bakeries brand. This partnership allowed us, as BB Bakeries, the opportunity to support our community by building them new homes," Hoy adds.

"A home is a symbol of community, a pillar of strength throughout the difficult moments that our province is currently facing. By building homes, we are hoping to restore the dignity and strength of KZNers in the same way that they have been doing for one another, the province over," concludes Hoy.
