On Monday, 16 June, The World Mission Society Church of God has held its 1678th Worldwide Blood Drive to 'Give Life Through the Love of the Passover' in Waverley, Johannesburg. The drive has been held in partnership with the South African National Blood Services (SANBS) and Ward 74 Councillor Belinda Kayser-Echeozonjoku.

On Youth Day, the Church of God volunteers, their families and neighbours gathered for the blood drive. The Waverley Sports Club donated its facility for the blood drive, and a total of 59 donors donated blood, including the Ward Councillor and Member of Parliament Brideget Masango, says the organisation.

SANBS Donor Recruiter, Tinyiko Mathe, says, "You're saving three lives of people you don't know and who don't know you. Even after saving their lives, no one can come to you and say thank you, because we don't know each other. There's a saying that says, 'If you want to prove the existence of God, just show love,' and that's exactly what you're doing today. Thank you."

Councillor Kayser-Echeozonjoku says, "It's a significant day in South Africa. Thank you so much for coming here. And I thank the South African National Blood Service for partnering with you and with Ward 74. It's great to see so many young people. I'm reminded of the spirit of youth of 1976."

The organisation says it was an effort to provide blood products to numerous patients in need, including terminally ill women who had complications at childbirth, road accidents, scheduled operations, pediatric cases, etc.

The event, carried out during Worldwide Blood Donor Month, also aligned with the SANBS' National Blood Donor Month (NBMD) 2025 campaign that celebrates the life-changing impact of blood donors and the powerful message of community, compassion and solidarity that underpins every donation, says World Mission Society Church of God.

The World Mission Society Church of God concludes that the blood drive is a global event that has been actively taking place not only in South Africa but also around the world for twenty years.
