Planet Fitness has marked another milestone on Saturday, 22 November, with the opening its Randburg club. This brand-new club has aimed to offer members a space that is designed around how South Africans truly train today.
"Training no longer looks the same for everyone, and it shouldn't have to," says Mannee De Wet, Managing Director of Planet Fitness. "Our Randburg club was created to give people the freedom to move, lift, stretch, or recover in the way that works best for them. It's about building strength, not just in body, but in community."
Built with intention, the new club aims to reflect the latest global and local training trends, from hybrid and functional training to dedicated recovery zones, while providing the sense of community that has always been central to the Planet Fitness experience, says the company.
Members can look forward to the brand's largest hybrid training floor to date, along with specialised areas such as the Booty Factory, Mobility Zone, Reformer Pilates Studio, HYROX facilities, saunas, a recovery zone and steam rooms, posing rooms and the signature Plato Coffee lounge and workspace, adds the company.
The Randburg opening follows the launch of two other new clubs earlier this year and forms part of Planet Fitness' considered growth strategy of opening five new clubs annually until 2030, while continuously upgrading existing facilities. De Wet emphasises that the brand's focus is not on becoming the biggest, but on creating spaces that genuinely meet members' needs, says the company.
"We've never been driven by the number of clubs we have," says De Wet. "Each opening is about serving a community with the facilities and experience they want."
The new Randburg club also aims to reflect broader shifts in training culture. Gyms are now gender-inclusive spaces where functional training and strength are priorities for everyone, and members are able to increasingly view exercise as an essential part of overall health and longevity, adds the company.
"The journey from training for aesthetics, to training for long-term strength and vitality has reshaped our industry," says De Wet. "Our clubs are evolving in step with this shift, offering safe, sustainable and scientifically informed spaces to support lifelong health and wellbeing."
"We're thrilled to open our new state-of-the-art gym in Randburg, bringing our unique Judgement Free Zone experience to the community. At Planet Fitness, our purpose is to help people live longer, healthier lives. Our new gym will provide Randburg residents with a welcoming space to achieve their fitness goals, surrounded by like-minded individuals who support and motivate each other. We're committed to making a positive impact on the community and can't wait to welcome our new members," says Bernandt De Clerk, Regional Operations Manager of Planet Fitness Randburg.
With a clear vision for sustainable expansion and a people-first culture, the Randburg opening that aims to underscore Planet Fitness' commitment to building not just gyms, but training homes that inspire, connect and empower, concludes the company.
