Water is one of our country’s most precious natural resources, and with predictions indicating that South Africa will experience wide-ranging water shortages from 2025, it is important that we all learn how to look after this scarce and valuable resource.

In support of water conservation and as part of the company’s commitment to water education, JoJo Tanks recently undertook a goodwill project for the Walter Sisulu Primary School in Olievenhoutbosch, south of Pretoria.

School principal, Garos Kabinde, needed a sponsor for a school greening project for a group of his learners and he approached SA Garden/SA Tuin Paleis magazine for help - with some very green results.

The magazine contacted JoJo Tanks who jumped straight in to help out by generously providing a brand new JoJo Slimline™ tank to install close to the vegetable garden thereby securing a water supply to the newly planted vegetables. SmartStone provided beautiful pavers to finish off the project, while Doonholm Nursery supplied additional fresh vegetable and herb seedlings.

Comments JoJo Tanks’ Managing Director, Rod Cairns, “We are honoured to be involved with a project where we can increase the awareness of the importance of water conservation and rainwater harvesting amongst our learners, the decision makers of tomorrow. We trust that the sponsorship of the JoJo Slimline™ tank will not only be the beginning of the greening of the Walter Sisulu Primary School but also of the entire community.”

The learners; teachers; and Kabinde are very excited about the school garden. “We are looking forward to maintaining the garden, integrating it into our teaching material and reaping the nutritional rewards of fresh vegetables. It is also incredibly rewarding to provide the learners with a first-hand experience of the benefits of rainwater harvesting. Through this interactive greening project, we are changing our water usage behaviour; becoming water wise; and learning that ‘Together we can save water’. And one of the most water wise things to do is to install a water tank to harvest rain, our free source of water.”
