Lonrho Hotels was the only hotel brand in attendance which; through clever planning and direct marketing to the Mining Indaba exhibitors and visitors; have cemented their name as forerunners in the luxury business travel arena.

This event was attended by over 4 000 influential delegates from over 180 countries; including more than 40 African Government delegates, mining exploration companies, service companies, investors and financiers from all over the world.

Delegates enjoyed three and a half jammed packed days in a host of presentations, panel discussions and informative sessions, with the major focus placed on capitalisation and the growth of mining interests in Africa. During their expedition into the “underground” world of mining, Juliet Drozdz (Sales Manager: Lonrho Hotels), Mark Havercroft (Operations Director: Lonrho Hotels) and Paul Murry (General Manager: Grand Karavia Lonrho Hotel DRC) were fortunate enough to gain valuable insights and mingle with the who’s who in the mining sector.

While the first few days consisted of setting up the stands, collecting business cards and distributing flyers; Lonrho representatives noticed the dominant presence of countries such as China, Australia, Canada and Africa. This insight could be attributed to the Lonrho Group’s superb positioning en route to the main conference room where Ms Drozdz had the perfect opportunity to introduce the delegates to the Lonrho Hotel Group, including the Grand Karavia Lonrho Hotel in Lubumbashi DRC, the business and mining hotel of choice, as well as their other properties, the Leopard Rock hotel in Zimbabwe and the Hotel Cardoso in Mozambique, both business travellers hotels of choice.

With the Lonrho Group’s plans for expansion into Africa currently a priority; recognising that other African neighbours such as Angola, Nigeria, Kenya and Sudan were in dire need of suitable accommodation for the level of traveller making their way across the borders was another valuable gem of discovery for the group. Proof of the impact of a well executed marketing strategy; Lonrho Hotels almost instantly became the name on the lips of mining and business travellers across the globe eager to experience what the luxury hotel group has in store for their industry.
