John Cowing, MD of South African representative GoIndustry DoveBid SA (Pty) Limited, explains: “There are companies across the globe that specialise in different areas. So what a company such as Sotheby’s is to antiques, GoIndustry DoveBid is to business assets.”
Its South African representation opened its doors in 2004, and more recently the Cape Town-based office began the company’s first online property auction division under the management of awardwinning property professional Kim Faclier. The company recently achieved its BEE level 3 rating.
Both globally and locally, GoIndustry DoveBid’s operations are spread among a total of 34 categories, ranging across sectors as diverse as broadcast, electronics, medical and pharmaceutical to defence & aerospace, food & textiles to heavy-duty industrial and mining operations.
It comes as no surprise to learn that the company has found buyers for a number of unusual lots.
“For example, GoIndustry DoveBid sold London’s famous Dome including everything from its wall and light fittings to the memorabilia inside. The auction consisted of a total of 15 000 lots and took over four days to conduct, explained Cowing.
“We’ve sold everything from river boats for British Waterways to a Nascar series which included not only the vehicles and the engines but all the support equipment behind it. One of our Private Treaty sales included the disposal of the A1 GP Series.”
GoIndustry DoveBid SA has an on-going contract with Transnet to sell their rolling stocks and wagons. It also recently sold a 100 000 tpa stainless steel billet mill.
Joey Burke, new business development manager for GoIndustry DoveBid SA, elaborates: “The equipment was in excellent condition with world-class technology and sold to a French national with interests in Guatemala.”
Another recent sale was the disposal of a Ceramic Floor Tile manufacturing plant with a capacity of 4-million square meters per year. The plant has been sold to an end user in Egypt.
Among the lots that are currently on offer via the South African office is a 100kg/day gold and silver refinery being sold on behalf of Continental Refinery, a number of repossessed drill rigs being sold on behalf of Nedbank, and the auction of redundant mining equipment for AngloGold Ashanti.
