“MIET Africa realizes its purpose of improving the lives of children by contributing to quality teaching and learning. It prides itself on being an African NGO and an innovator of education approaches that focus on the challenges faced by children in rural areas,” said the NGO’s Dawn Jones, director of knowledge management and materials development.
The Z-CARD
®s are being distributed to learners, teachers, parents and education officials in seven school districts in KwaZulu-Natal.
Whilst explaining sexual harassment and rape, the Z-CARD
® also details a step-by-step guide to follow if you have experienced rape or sexual assault. It provides contact telephone numbers for Childline, Life Line and SAPS emergency.
“We chose the Z-CARD
® format because it is small and robust enough to keep in a school satchel or bag, without crumpling up. It is also slightly more interactive than giving out a pamphlet and is a discrete medium in which to portray sensitive information,” added Jones.
“We love the novel pocket-sized fold out format. We wanted to hone in on the most relevant information and so wanted more of a pamphlet than a book. People keep books, but often see pamphlets as disposable. The Z-CARD
® has the brevity of a pamphlet, with the feel of something more permanent and lasting,” explained Zamani Khuzwayo, project manager.
