The Chase Winshaw Charity Trust was set up two years ago by Sovereign Trust (SA) Limited to help raise funds so that young Chase Winshaw could receive life changing surgery to achieve a better quality of life after being diagnosed with cerebral palsy.

Dan Skinstad was amongst guests to hand over the R50 000 donation. Skinstad is an ambassador of the Children’s Hospital Trust as well as The Chase Winshaw Charity Trust. The League of Awesomeness is a special league spearheaded by Sovereign Trust to recruit runners for the Knysna Half Marathon and create awareness of this charity and its cause. It is Skinstad’s association with the Children’s Hospital Trust that led to the Hospital’s Cerebral Palsy Clinic benefitting from Sovereign’s and the Charity Trust’s benevolence.

This donation to the Children’s Hospital Trust is The Chase Winshaw Charity Trust’s broader reach to support others with cerebral palsy and the Cerebral Palsy Clinic at the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital will use the funds to purchase critical items such as wheelchairs and posture chairs. The Children’s Hospital Trust’s role is as fundraiser of the Hospital and Paediatric Healthcare in the Western Cape, and has supported the Hospital since 1994.

Sovereign Trust (SA) Limited forms part of the Sovereign Group, an international company which specialises in cross border tax planning and structuring of offshore companies and trusts. According to managing director, Coreen Hayman, Sovereign Trust is conscious about social responsibility in the country and encourages their staff to be involved in community activities. “We’ve had lots of fun with the League of Awesomeness and we are committed to increase the reach of The Chase Winshaw Charity Trust in the future.”

“The Children’s Hospital Trust formed the Ambassador Programme to establish links with high profile individuals such as Dan Skinstad, who display the ethos of the Trust and Hospital and to assist with furthering our cause. Through his management agency, Big Sports Management and its partnership with the Children’s Hospital Trust, Dan joined this programme in July this year and this donation reflects his dedication to helping us make an impact on the lives of the thousands of young children treated at the Hospital each year,” says Louise Driver, CEO of the Children’s Hospital Trust.

The Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital is one of the top paediatric hospitals in the world, providing world-class treatment to seriously ill children and high level training to medical professionals both locally and internationally.
