They will be broadcasting live from Tongaat Central Library on Wednesday, 28 November, when various schools will be the recipient of book donations to kick start their school libraries.

The sad reality is that many school libraries in and around the Durban area have fallen into disuse with only tattered and old books remaining, which fails to inspire youth to read.

The Midday Spice Book Drive aims to transform non-functional school libraries into functional accessible ones and provide youth with good reading material.

Lotus FM appeals to surrounding communities to respond to the book drive by donating all unwanted books, fiction, non-fiction, textbooks, children's literature, encyclopediasand reference books, for readers aged between 5 and 18 years old.

Books can be deposited into branded Lotus FM boxes located at the following community libraries in the KwaZulu-Natal region:

1.Glenashley Library;
2. La Lucia Library;
3. Stonebridge Library – Phoenix;
4. Montford Library – Chatsworth;
5. Reservoir Hills Library;
6. Verulam Library;
7. Tongaat Central Library; and
8. Umdloti Library.

“Literacy plays a vital role in the development of communities and it’s imperative that Lotus FM contributes to the progression of literacy,” said Station manager Alvin Pillay.
