Collect-a-Can will be hosting Clean-Up SA and Recycling Day events on Thursday, 19 and Friday, 20 September from 09:00 to 15:00 at Road 804 J-Section Community Park in Umlazi, Durban. There will be a Collect-a-Can buy-back point for empty cans, where community members can sell their recovered cans for cash on both days.

On the first day, a community clean-up drive and door-to-door education will take place to educate the Umlazi Community about the importance of keeping the environment clean and recycling.

“We are looking forward to partnering with our communities to increase recycling for a healthier environment,” says Zimasa Velaphi, PR and marketing manager at Collect-a-Can.

On the second day - Friday, 20 September - the activities will focus on can recycling, with information sessions about can recycling, Collect-a-Can initiatives and how to get involved.

“Currently the recycling rate of all beverage cans recycled in South Africa is estimated at 72%, significantly more than any other form of beverage packaging in South Africa. We believe that every South African regardless of age, race, background or economic status has a responsibility to help keep the country clean and litter free,” says Velaphi

The day will conclude with live performances by finalists of the U CAN DO IT! reality talent show driven by Kwaito King, Arthur Mafokate, in partnership with CAN DO! (Nampak Bevcan).
