“We jumped at the opportunity to install this feature because that is exactly our approach to decorating and design – it’s got to be what works for your life, not a slavish following of décor trends, but rather incorporating with your own individual style” says Moss.
Sian Steyn, general manager of the
Decorex SA Portfolio, said 2014 is the year that design and decor will move away from sweeping dictating trends and focus on the needs and styles of the individual. “Being confident in our own design choices is trending across the globe and people are feeling empowered to make their own style statement in all aspects of the home.”
This new, modern era had resulted in a more practical approach to life and the team at
Decorex SA loves the fact that design and decorating companies and manufacturers are now translating this movement into objects and concepts which adapted to individual style, she said.
Decorex SA’s exhibitions in 2014 would be all about voicing your individuality and creating your own space, inspiring you to ‘Design Your Life’.
Sarah Reynolds, the other half of Urban Lace Interior Design, said she and Moss spend a lot of time finding different looks for their clients.
Urban Lace focuses on creating different looks according to their clients’ needs and taste. “I hate to think that someone could open a magazine, look at one of our spaces and be able to identify it immediately because our signature has become too repetitive,” says Reynolds.
She adds, there is much handicraft and bespoke design available now – the interior design world has changed completely in the past five years and now everyone wants their home to look different.
Urban Lace have not finalised the plans for their
Decorex Durban showcase but promise an exciting look at the Durban lifestyle as well as the creative talent that the city has to offer.
The Urban Lace team works with local manufacturers, The Goodwood Co, to custom make most of their clients’ pieces but they also love to hunt for once off vintage pieces to add a unique touch. Other local designers they like to support include Casamento, Brak, Egg and Woltemade.
