Leading South African public relations consultancy, Meropa Communications, has opened an office in Port Elizabeth/Nelson Mandela Bay. Meropa now has wholly owned branches in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban and Port Elizabeth – making it the most national of South Africa’s PR agencies.
“We have been servicing Eastern Cape-based clients, particularly the Coega Development Corporation for more than five years already and we have had dedicated resources in this region for most of that time,” says Peter Mann, CE of Meropa. “Until the opening of our office recently, we had kindly been accommodated by Coega. However, the advent of other clients meant that we had to establish our own office.”
Meropa has based itself in the city’s creative nexus by taking office space in the newly refurbished Athenaeum, also home of the Little Theatre. The building is a hive of activity with multi-media productions, performances, music, art exhibitions and other creative exploits taking place in the community space for the creative industries.
“This is the perfect place for Meropa – in a hub of creativity and urban regeneration,” says head of Meropa’s PE office, Amy Shelver. “There’s a growing buzz in the Bay, especially in the industrial and infrastructural development sectors. Through our work with various clients such as the Coega Development Corporation, Air Products South Africa and the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium we see increasing potential for the Eastern Cape economy and are committed to being a part of it.”
Meropa is recognised nationally as having some of the leading names in the public relations industry. Headed by Peter Mann, a recognisable face in both the world of journalism and reputation management, Meropa’s Port Elizabeth team aims to represent the best the province has to offer.
Meropa offers full-service public relations and communications strategy programmes. In addition to the South African offices, the agency reaches into 17 African countries through its AfricaOne network, which offers dedicated PR outlets throughout East, Central and West Africa and the Indian Ocean islands.
“We’re looking forward to offering strategic advice to clients, and to being a part of the growth and profiling of the local economy,” adds Shelver.
