A Vodacom Smart Tab 3G was handed to Grade 6 learner Moses Mbemba and to Grade 7’s Kelly Ann Solomons, Asemahle Kutu and Moeniba Hoffman who achieved top marks in their grade, at the school’s annual awards evening on Thursday, 4 December, in the presence of their peers, parents, teachers, the principal and dignitaries including the Circuit Team Manager of the Metro South Education District, Thandi Jafta.

Heinz Park Primary principal Malcom Pinto said it was the first time in the school’s history that it had awarded a prize of this magnitude to top achievers: “We are very grateful to Vodacom who came on board and provided these prizes. This generous donation can show the learners that there is a whole new world out there and with these devices they can access the internet allowing them to research and assist with future projects.”

A delighted Asemahle Kutu said: “I am going to use my new Vodacom Smart Tablet in the most efficient way and it will also help me with my studies at high school next year. Heinz Park is where I started and I will never forget that as I continue my school career.”

The Vodacom Smart Tab 3G is designed specifically for the South African market. It weighs just 275g, features a 7-inch 960x540 TFT capacitive touch screen display, a 2-megapixel rear-facing camera for pictures and video, a 0.3 megapixel front-facing camera for video calls and selfies, 4GB of memory which is expandable up to 32GB via micro-SD card, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

“We strongly support various educational and social investment programmes in the area of education and using our technology to empower and educate the youth is key to the Vodacom Foundation, therefore it is an honour for us to reward these learners with some of the tools needed to assist them with their future studies that will help them to continue to excel,” said Lynn Benjamin, regional marketing manager: Vodacom Western Region.
