Apparently, you can remove Zuma from your internet

A while ago, we contemplated renaming our Trend Report to the Kanye Report, but now we’re thinking the Zuma Report might be more appropriate. It seems we can’t go a week without our President trending. This week saw ANC Gauteng ask Zuma to “do the right thing”, and the ANCWL defended JZ but slammed Thuli Madonsela.

So we were slightly hopeful when we saw that Chrome had created a plugin that removed Zuma from your internet. While we knew it was a joke, we couldn’t help but smile at the possibilities.

If, however, it was real, this report probably wouldn’t show up in anyone’s feed, so we’re glad it wasn’t true.

Johannesburg truly is a jungle

Almost every South African who has encountered a foreigner has been asked some or other question about wild animals roaming our country freely. We’re used to just rolling our eyes and brushing it off as ignorance, but this week had us second guessing ourselves. The Twittersphere saw images popping up of the king of the jungle wandering the streets of Braamfontein in Johannesburg, and they had some questions. But more than that, they had some funny tweets.

@CityofJoburgZA: Even lions visit Braam. It's a cool place, thanks to inner city rejuvenation. The area got wifi too...^TK

@Adverttown: When you're a party animal and you heard braam is the place to be.

@yebo_levy: When foreigners say. "You don't really have lions walking your streets do you, that's just an old myth" #braam

@dose_of_zee: The Guptas left the country and let their pets roam free? #Braam

Tom Eaton, however, didn’t fall for it.

@TomEatonSA: What?! The #Braam lion was part of a film shoot?! I thought the HUGE CAMERA BOOM IN ALL THE PICTURES was just a lamp post lying down.

The most poisoned chalice in world rugby?

On Tuesday, former Stormers coach Allister Coetzee was announced as the new Springbok coach. Known to the media as an all-around nice guy, on paper Coetzee has the qualifications and the experience to tackle (get it?) the job at hand. But when you add in transformation and politics, some believe that Coetzee might just end up with too many balls to juggle (or catch, as Zapiro illustrated). It’s no easy job to coach the Springboks. Heyneke Meyer will tell you that. As will Peter de Villiers. So shouldn't everyone at least wait until the Boks take the pitch before they criticise?

Dwarves who just didn’t make the cut

We’re not entirely sure who comes up with some of the hashtags that trend on Twitter, and this week was no different. On Thursday, #rejectedsnowwhitedwarves was one of the weird but wonderful things we saw on our newsfeed. More often than not, the hashtag was accompanied by an image of a politician or celebrity, especially David Cameron, Kanye West and Donald Trump.  Below are a few of our favourites:

@ComedyCentralUK: #RejectedSnowWhiteDwarves Yeezy

@alsarcastic: Dodgy #RejectedSnowWhiteDwarves

@CharlieKadoo: Creepy #RejectedSnowWhiteDwarves

@Unnamedinsider: #RejectedSnowWhiteDwarves Trumpy

There’s no doubt that next week we’ll have just as much to write about, so until then …
