Developed in Southern California, after a successful launch in the United States and India (where it is headed by Bollywood star, Anil Kapoor), Africa’s talent and communications agency, Celebrity Services Africa (CSA.Global), is set to launch indi.com and its smartphone app across Africa in October.

Indi’s launch will start off with a challenge that talented users can take part in, in order to stand a chance of getting signed to the agency. Other upcoming challenges include the City of Cape Town Festive Lights (the winner of which will share a stage with leading artists such as Black Coffee and A.K.A.), and The World’s Funniest Man Comedy challenge (regional winners travel to Finland for the final).

Indi will also host channels by some of South Africa’s top personalities such as Boity and House DJ, Euphonik, where fans can get exclusive content and partake in challenges hosted by these celebrities.

“In support of our quest to democratise the entertainment industry in Africa, we’re very excited to bring Indi to the continent. It is the perfect platform for millennial users to showcase their talents and share stories & creative ideas,” says CSA director, Davin Phillips.

“As it is not limited to geo-location, there are no boundaries to the amount of talent who want to showcase what they’ve got. Think Idols, think The Voice, think (Africa’s) Got Talent - but all from one platform, in Africa, on your mobile phone.”

On Indi.com, brands and celebrities initiate a variety of challenges where anyone can participate by uploading an original video. Winners are then chosen based on their talent as well as the amount of social buzz (likes, views, comments and shares) their video generates.

The only platform that aggregates all social media channels onto one site, Indi’s algorithm then tracks and calculates a user’s social engagement across all their social channels (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram), resulting in “buzz points” which are then displayed on their Indi channel dashboard.

Past Indi competitions and challenges in the US have included brands such as America’s Got Talent, Pokémon Go, SnapChat, and Laugh Factory, as well as celebrity challenges initiated by Snoop Dog and actor Billy Bob Thornton.

In addition to being discovered by industry leaders, contestants can also win cash prizes and amazing career opportunities, while indi.com will also challenge the digital status quo where individuals are able to monetise original content.
