BeReal is a social media app with the purpose of showing the real, unfiltered version of you and your life. There is no option to add filters to make your skin look flawless or use an old photo of you all dressed up.

Here are the basics of BeReal:
  • Everyone with the app receives a notification telling them to 'Be Real' at the same time.
  • The time notification comes at a different time every day.
  • Once you receive the notification, you have two minutes to take a photo.
  • The app takes a photo with both the front and back camera at the same time, so that it can show both you and what you are doing.
  • You do have the option to retake the photo, but the app will let people know if you decided to retake the photo 20 times.
  • Only your friends on the app can see your BeReal photo.
With the uptake in social media influencers and perfectly curated posts, BeReal was created to remind us all to be our real selves.
