Africa Day is pretty epic — it commemorates the anniversary of the
Organization of African Unity (OAU).
The day remembers not only the
founding of the organisation but the role it has played in bringing the whole of Africa together in
unity.

While the day remembers the organisation and the unity it brought, the
month takes the opportunity to celebrate the African continent and its:
- people
- history
- culture, and
- achievements.
Making the most of it on social
It's all about
remembering and
expanding the celebration of what makes us African.
We, as South Africans, are natural storytellers, and social media lets us tell many stories. Here are just five ideas on going about the social side of African narrative:
- Use images, colour schemes and patterns that associate with African contexts, cultures and environments.
- Encourage diverse representation, as well as signage that associates with positivity, unity and hope.
- Be educational yet entertaining.
- Resonate with your audience by using a quote, language, or context that they will engage with.
- Use a call-to-action; allow others to get involved too.
